Dear Club Members:
All current Club members are invited to be considered for a position on our Executive Board. Our Club has several Executive Board members retiring this year as Board members are limited to two, consecutive, two-year terms. Of the seven positions on our Board, there will be five new available positions. Nancy Devitt and Dianna St. Aubin will return. Board elections will be held at our Club Annual Meeting in late September. Our current Board will recommend a slate of candidates, however all Club members may be considered and run for the vacant positions.
This is your chance to be considered for our Board, or you can nominate another Club member who has agreed to serve. A key position will be Treasurer so we need a good, qualified candidate for this position if you have financial experience and/or skills. Also, a new Board president and vice-president(s) will be chosen by the new Board members after the elections. Good job descriptions for these positions can be found in our Bylaws on our web site under Members Only, Article III, Section D.
We have been very successful as a Club, but we do need to move forward with a strong, qualified Executive Board. Please email Dennis Gallaher, [email protected] if you would like to be considered for the Board, or nominate another member. Potential Board members will meet with the Board on August 22 for more details on the positions and for a brief interview.
SW Metro Pickleball Club
Good news, we finally have a project under construction at Westwood Park in Bloomington. It has been a long hard road getting to this point.
The work started way back when Jim Klaseus was first getting pickleball started by lining courts with chalk while working on the city to paint lines.
That progressed to the city finally seeing a glimmer of light about the popularity of pickleball. They took it upon themselves to design and build a three pickleball/one tennis lined for pickleball complex that opened Aug 2011.
Being the first dedicated pickleball courts, it served as the site for our second club tournament the next month. Very quickly it became apparent the courts we woefully under built for demand, with the east/west orientation of the pickleball courts adding to the problem.
So the quest for a larger complex was soon started. With Jerry Maas and Jim Klaseus we spent time with tape measures figuring out what we could do with all that space. We produced a rudimentary drawing, and from that rudimentary drawing Rae Hansen put her background to work producing a site plan we presented to the city. They responded favorably, and we were on to the next phase of how to convince the city they needed it.
That built up to the point where our dedicated team of Jim Klaseus, Deanne Turja, Jeff Conradi, Deb Waldin, Ken Miaymoto, Denny Daniels, Bev and Dale Throndson composed a petition and obtained 400 signatures in support. This was presented to Park & Rec who included it in a report about the state of Tennis and Pickleball to the City Council. That report led to the City Council approving a site plan in 2017 and finally funding the current project in 2018.
Now after ONLY 7 years ground is broken for an eight dedicated pickleball court/tennis court lined for four temporary courts complex. Hurray!

Our highest priority is that you as players (as well as your friends and family), volunteers, and club members have a great experience for this tournament. Given this prime objective, SW Metro Pickleball Club is pleased to announce that we have secured an outstanding, updated, new venue for this Middles States Regional, August 8th through the 12th.
This opportunity came about only recently, and we hope you will agree that the change will only enhance your participation and play in the Middle States Regional and your experience, all while enjoying what is becoming a Midwest destination for pickleball.
This change will ensure a far greater competitive draw, additional amenities that we could not offer in the past (nor were these amenities available at the previous venue), and the assurance that the tournament will run without most any uncertainty of inclement weather.
NOTICE: The 2018 Middle States Regional Tournament will be played at
Lakeville Life Time Fitness (18425 Dodd Blvd, Lakeville MN 55044)
Not only is the court surface outdoor (tennis court surface in an indoor setting) assuring a true bounce (we still will use the Dura Fast 40 ball), the facilities and amenities of this club for players and family alike are truly outstanding – Please Click Here for details.
As you are aware this tournament is a USAPA SANCTIONED event, making players eligible to register for the Nationals in 2019 at the beautiful Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Palm Springs, California. A Gold medal the Middle States Regional earns a pre-registration opportunity for that same type at Nationals – so a gold in Mixed Doubles 60-64, 3.5 – earns a pre-registration opportunity in skill/age Mixed Doubles. Registration is currently open: Click Here To Register as a PLAYER
We need and welcome Volunteers: Click Here to Sign-Up as a VOLUNTEER
We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Middle States Regional.
