Starting December 4th, we will be hosting a weekly Tuesday ladder at Champions Hall.
It won’t carry over from one week to the next, but we’ll play a couple of rounds, figure out who won and then have a social hour at Roady’s Café located at Champions Hall! Perhaps we can even give the winner a complementary beer, wine or soft drink.
It will run from 12-2pm, you must be signed up by 11:30 to be included, up to 20 people, recommended level 3.5-4.0. Open play will end at 11:45 so the ladder can begin.
So, come early, get signed up, play a couple warm-up games and join the fun.

SW Metro Pickleball Club’s Annual Meeting was held on Friday, October 5th at the Chanhassen Rec Center. Prior to the start of the meeting, there was open Pickleball play and a light meal served. The newest edition of the TipBits books was available and there were also a few lucky winners in the door prize drawings.
Dennis Gallagher paid tribute to Jerry Maas and explained about a new award being established in Jerry’s memory. It’s simply called the Jerry Maas Memorial Award and will be presented each year to a club member who goes above and beyond contributing and supporting the sport of Pickleball. The first ever Jerry Maas Memorial Award was presented to MARK ENGASSER.
Dennis presented Mark with the award – Congratulations Mark Engasser!
The other hot topic of the annual meeting was to elect new officers to replace those members whose terms were up.

On October 11, 2018, 35 SW Metro Pickleball members and their families gathered at the Feed My Starving Children’s Eagan location as part of our fall service program. For two hours we hand-packed rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which were then sealed, boxed, and placed on pallets that would later be shipped to the neediest children around the world. The food we packed that night would be going to Honduras.
Our Club donated $100 and there were other private donations made at the time of the event. It was a fast paced, fun evening and we hope that more members will join us when we do this again.
Hey everyone who stays in Minnesota most of the winter and are looking for indoor play, the SW Metro Club has contracted with Champions Hall for exclusive time on 5 courts, 6 days a week.
Starting November 2018 and running through March 2019 – We have secured the following days and hours:
- Monday through Friday 10:00-2:00
- Saturday 12:00-4:00
Thursday November 1 FREE DAY – All SW Club Members play free on Nov. 1 and have a chance to buy punch cards for future play
We are planning to have a women’s group/league on Monday mornings 10:00-12:00 for 3.0 and above probably on 2 or 3 courts, depending on numbers. The remaining courts would be open to anyone and after 12:00, all would be open for play.
We are working on scheduling some lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings that will hopefully be available starting in December. More information to come on this.
In the meantime, open play is available, come find your fellow PBler’s and join in the indoor fun!
SW Metro members will be able to play for $4.00 per session, and we will have a “no cash” system as we will have cards purchasable for $20.00, for 5 sessions. Please bring cash or check for punch cards, no credit cards accepted. If you can’t come to the Free Day on November 1st, punch cards will be available from all board members.

Here’s a great opportunity for our Club to serve. The Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness is a nonprofit organization that services seniors over the age of 60. They primarily use volunteers to visit seniors in their homes to help combat social isolation or provide respite for caregivers of a senior with mild to moderate memory loss. In addition to our 1:1 volunteer opportunities, they provide monthly group respite for caregivers who want to attend their Alzheimer Education and Support Groups. The time commitment and schedule can be very flexible. They are experiencing a steady increase in the demand for volunteers. Please help make sure these community members do not feel forgotten.
If interested, please contact Katie Heitzig, Volunteer Coordinator at Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness, [email protected], or 952.977.9374.
Helping cut the ribbon were City Council Member, Kristi Halverson, Barb Horgen, Public Works Director, Steve Stadler and Mayor Molly Cummings.
