One of our primary Club goals is to expand capacity and quality of playing venues. So it’s a great year with 39 new dedicated courts showing great progress in Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minnetonka, Hopkins, and Golden Valley. Pioneer Park will also get a new overlay and four permanent courts.

Eden Prairie Staring Lake Park: the eight new courts are now paved and fences, net posts and drinking fountain installed, way ahead of schedule! Maybe playable in July?

Bloomington Westwood Park: eight courts are now approved with groundbreaking expected in late June and completion in late Summer. A new tennis court will be lined for four additional temporary courts.

Minnetonka Lone Lake Park: eight dedicated courts are now mostly graded with more earthwork in progress, hoping to be playable later in the Summer.

Hopkins Central Park: five new dedicated courts being graded now and expected to be completed this Summer just off Excelsior Blvd on 16th Avenue South.

Golden Valley Wildwood Park: the asphalt is down for six dedicated courts located at Duluth St and Pennsylvania Ave. With some luck, we should be playing by July 1st.

2018 Schooner Days Tournament Results & Photos

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day. That’s how the song goes, right?

In the case of our Schooner Days event, it was the players going away and coming back another day. That’s right, Mother Nature won the day, with relentless rain showers forcing the final few games to be played indoors, and all Mixed Doubles events to take place the following day. Just to keep things interesting, day two was plagued by strong gusty winds that made for some interesting play!

EXCITING NEWS: Partnership With Michael Lynne Tennis

SouthWest Metro Pickleball Club is pleased to announce a partnership with Michael Lynne’s Tennis Shop a local premiere Tennis and now Pickleball shop.

While relatively new to Pickleball, Michael and Mimzy Lynne have been in the tennis business for over twenty years. In that time, they’ve learned what customers really want: expert advice, a great selection, and most of all, unmatched customer service. And that is exactly what they are now bringing to Pickleball.

When you visit the store, you won’t find soccer balls, blenders or bicycles. What you’ll find is the region’s biggest selection of Pickleball equipment and apparel in a location staffed by friendly, helpful employees who know and love the game just as much as you do.

Stop by their store at: Miracle Mile Shopping Center 5011 Excelsior Boulevard St. Louis Park, MN 55416

Or visit their website and then head to the store!

Stop by and mention you are from the SW Metro Pickleball Club and welcome Mike and Mimzy to our Pickleball Community!

Ask about their DEMO program. It’s a great way to try before you buy!

Staring Courts Show Great Progress At May 7 Groundbreaking Ceremony

The gang was all there on Monday May 7th for an eventful Groundbreaking Ceremony for our approved eight new permanent pickleball courts (plus new tennis and basketball courts) with construction and grading already showing great progress!

These first-class courts will meet our expanding needs for permanent courts. The plan is to have the entire project completed by October with court play possible as early as August depending on weather (and we could be ahead of schedule!).

As the photo shows, this was a Community effort, everyone working together to make this happen. Photo, left-to-right shows Park and Rec Commission members, Club Board Members, Eden Prairie Mayor Nancy Tyra-Lukens, and City Council members Ron Case and Brad Aho.

Thanks so much for all the great efforts and financial support of everyone to make this project a reality.

Please join in at Staring Lake Park for the Groundbreaking Ceremony for our approved eight new permanent pickleball courts with construction beginning now! The mayor, Nancy Tyra-Lukens and other EP city officials will be there to celebrate with us.

Thanks to everyone!

New Courts Coming This Summer!

It must be spring! Construction season is upon us (well maybe not given our recent weather!). This season will bring many new pickleball courts in Hopkins, Minnetonka, Bloomington, and Eden Prairie.

The SWMPC through city representatives, board, and club members have been instrumental in working with the cities to bring the following new courts to reality. A big thank you to those that have been involved in the process.

The 8 new Staring Lake Park courts in Eden Prairie are under contract with a tentative ground breaking celebration in May. Look for the announcement!

Hopkins has awarded contracts for 5 new courts in Central Park. Central Park is located at 101 16th Avenue South in the downtown area of the city. The tentative schedule is for the courts to open the end of July or early August.
Rumor has it that the pickleballers in Hopkins have a really fun time! Note to self, check these courts out when they open…

Eight new courts will be constructed in Lone Lake Park in Minnetonka. Construction is expected to begin May 1 or earlier with completion in July. The courts will be constructed in the south end of the park, just west of the picnic shelter.

(Drum roll) The bid opening for new 8 courts at Westwood Park in Bloomington was April 10. The agenda for the April 16th City Council meeting includes the Westwood Courts as a consent item near the beginning of the meeting. Come support the project and thank the City staff and Council for their efforts to make this a reality. Cross your fingers these courts will be open for the USAPA Midwest Regional Tournament!

The word is out. New courts are being planned and becoming a reality.
